Samsung is well on its way to launch a new series of smartphones, the Galaxy S, which for a few months time, will only be available in the AT&T network. Until now it was not known the retail price of this new series and neither the release date, but a recent announcement from AT&T came to clarify the situation. It tuners out that the Samsung Galaxy S, known also as ‘Capitvate’, will be available in the AT&T network starting from the 18th of July and it will be sold for $199.99 together with a two year contract.
This will be the first communications network where the Samsung Galaxy S will be available in the US. In this way AT&T will finally get a powerful Android smartphone, however it will only last until the new Samsung series will be available on other US networks in a few months time.
As for the main features of the Samsung Captivate, this phone comes packed full of the latest mobile technology available today. It features a large 4-inch Super AMOLED touch screen which is crispy clear even in the full shine of the sun. It’s powered by the 1 GZ Hummingbird processor and comes with a full 16 GB of storage space, which can be expanded to up to 32 GB. The high processing power makes it capable of zooming through applications and web browsing without slowing down even for a millisecond.
The operating system is Android 2.1 but Samsung claims that it will eventually be upgraded to Android 2.2 in the near future. It has the ability to shoot HD video at 720p with it’s back facing 5-megapixel camera, however it lacks the ability to do video chat as it doesn’t have a front facing camera.
Other that that, the Samsung Captivate is quite a standard Android smartphone being able to work with numerous applications and widgets specific to the Android operating system.
