HP computer giant has made public their official ownership of Palm, which gives them the control over its intellectual properties including the much coveted WebOS. It was not surprising that even before the acquisition was consummated, HP has started publicizing its intention to create an arsenal of mobile devices around the powerful WebOS platform – including the much anticipated WebOS tablet.
Subsequent to a grandiose unveiling of the Windows 7 – based Slate by Microsoft and HP at CES early this year, HP has continually publicized the tablet’s edge over the approaching Apple iPad. Unfortunately, the Slate prototype attracted some negative reviews coupled with the off beam decision of competing against the iPad by packing a desktop into a tablet form made HP to pull the plug.
Instinctively, HP acquired the struggling plight of Palm, and got hold of the WebOS mobile platform as part of the package. People began to foresee the return of the Slate in the form of a WebOS tablet. True enough, HP has in one of its priorities to give life back to the WebOS and utilize it as a main base for tablets, smartphones, and other mobile computing devices.
From the economic point of view, the HP tablet is more likely going to attract more attention than the Apple iPad, in a sense that similar to its Windows 7 –based forerunner, the HP WebOS tablet has promised more unique features and functionality that are not offered in the iPad. The tablet will be embellished with a mobile OS, including USB or SD memory card ports, front and/or rear facing cameras, and compatibility with Adobe Flash content. Such attributes overwhelm the iPad and gives the HP tablet a high score in the consumer’s choices.
Although it is not powered by Windows, HP has established close ties with Microsoft and it is more likely that we are going to see an integration of the WebOS with Microsoft server and desktop applications and services in the very near future.
Backed up by HP’s reputable image, WebOS could make a sustainable jumpstart as the mobile OS that Windows Mobile should be, the Windows Phone 7.
I am an avid user of HPs smart phones then until Iphone was released. I recall those days that HP smart phones gives me all the things i need mobile.
With the advert of this WebOS Tablet I will definitely get one of this. I admire HP’s durability and functionality. Iam confident that they give excellent performance and exceed my expectations as well
