Adobe Flash to Enable 3D Technology

It looks like the next Flash Player update will also include 3D environments, at least according to Imbert Thibault, a product manager at Adobe. Within a post on his personal blog, he states that 3D game developers and programmers will not want to miss the next Flash Player meeting on October the 27th, suggestively entitled ‘Flash Player 3D future’, which will bring along a series of novelties such as a 3D API.

This is indeed a great piece of news and a mouthful of fresh air for web programmers who struggle with Flash’s incompatibilities with various internet browsers and operating systems. On a similar note, the Flash Player has been currently under a lot of pressure by a great number of Web standards and some of the reported issues are related to 3D Web graphics.

Right now, the current version of the Flash Player, already has some inbuilt 3D qualities but they are very limited. The most what programmers can currently do is to move and manipulate 2D objects in 3D space. It’s a long way from real 3D environments that you now see in first person shooters and other similar games.

The much expected release of Flash Player 11, could bring a total 3D support which will enable developers and programmers to make games and applications which will change the way that the internet looks right now. Soon, companies like Kongregate and Armor Games will be able to integrate this new technology and create online 3D games instead of the 2D games that we currently see everywhere.

So if you’re a web and application developer, stay tuned for the ‘Flash Player 3D future’ conference on the 27th of October and you’ll find out first hand what changes are about to come on the next version of Flash Player. Because according to the sayings of Imbert Thibault, is something that should not be missed by anybody who’s directly linked with 3D development.
